Weaving Heritage into Opportunity
Afrikesh Foundation is the social-impact arm of Afrikesh. Rooted in the Atlas Mountains and the Haouz region near Marrakech, we preserve ancestral weaving traditions while improving lives through education, health, water access, and community development.
Afrikesh Foundation
Who are We
Behind every rug is a pair of skilled hands and a legacy worth protecting.
We believe traditional craftsmanship is a treasure that must not disappear. Our foundation works hand-in-hand with artisans to preserve their skills, provide fair income, and keep this cultural heritage alive.
For generations, weaving has been a source of identity, culture, and livelihood for artisan families. But globalization and mass production have made their craft vulnerable. Our foundation is committed to:
What We Do
A year-round program designed around Moroccan cultural rhythms and Islamic occasions-because impact is strongest when it respects local life.
Artisans & Cooperatives
Training, tools, micro-grants, and cooperative formation for women and youth.
We invest in the artisans who carry Morocco’s heritage forward. Through training programs, weaving tools, micro-grants, and cooperative development, we empower women and young people to earn stable incomes. Our work preserves ancestral craft while opening doors to economic independence and long-term community growth.
Ramadan Aid & Eid al-Fitr
Food baskets, community iftars, and new outfits for children.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Afrikesh Foundation supports families through nutritious food baskets, community iftars, and programs to strengthen social togetherness. For Eid al-Fitr, we provide new outfits for children and organize festive gatherings that bring joy to communities facing financial hardship. Our focus is on restoring celebration, dignity, and unity.
Earthquake Relief
Emergency aid, food, blankets, and clothing for Atlas communities affected by the 2023 earthquake.
When the earthquake struck the Atlas region near Marrakech, nearby communities such as Talat N’Yaaqoub and Ighil suffered severe loss. Afrikesh Foundation responded immediately, delivering food, blankets, warm clothing, hygiene essentials, tents, and medical support to families who lost their homes.
We worked directly in remote mountain villages often overlooked by larger organizations, ensuring urgent aid reached those most affected.
Winter Solidarity
Blankets, warm clothing, and food support for high-altitude villages (Dec–Feb).
Every winter, temperatures in the Atlas Mountains drop far below freezing, leaving families vulnerable. Our Winter Solidarity program delivers warm blankets, layered clothing, essential food staples, and heating support to remote, high-altitude villages. We prioritize elderly residents, children, and families living in unstable housing to ensure they endure winter with dignity and safety.
Adha Support
Assistance for families unable to afford the sacrifice; community meals and gatherings.
For many families, the Eid al-Adha sacrifice is financially out of reach. We step in by providing support for the ritual sacrifice, distributing fresh meat to households in need, and hosting shared meals across villages. This program ensures that no family is left out of one of the year’s most meaningful traditions.
School Readiness
School kits, new clothes/shoes, and transport aid for students in September.
Education should begin on equal footing. Our School Readiness program equips children with complete school kits, clean new clothing and shoes, and transportation support for those traveling long distances. We help students start the school year with confidence, pride, and everything they need to succeed.
Water & Infrastructure
Well drilling, atelier/mosque/school renovation, and football terrains for youth.
Access to clean water and safe community spaces changes lives. We drill wells in priority villages, renovate artisan workshops, mosques, and schools, and build youth facilities like football fields. Each project strengthens community resilience and creates opportunities for education, work, and recreation.
